Nokia has unveiled a new pair of handsets, the Nokia 8800 Arte and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte, bringing 3G capabilities to the Nokia 8800 series.

The company claims that both the models combine appearance and functionality. By tapping the steel surface below the display, an analogue clock appears - indicating time in its most classic form. Incoming calls on a Nokia Arte handset can be silenced gracefully with the ‘turn-to-mute’ feature - allowing owners to quiet their phone inconspicuously by simply turning over the phone, screen-side down.

Heikki Norta, senior vice president of mobile phones at Nokia, said: "The high-end materials and seamless surfaces are pleasing to touch while the sophisticated, minimalistic design is equally satisfying to the eyes. An obsessive attention to detail means that the Nokia 8800 Arte and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte are engineered to last."

Seems Nokia N95, with pre-installed Flash Lite 2.0, is showing some impressive sales figures:

“The device behaved like a 3-year-old throwing a tantrum. Unless this is an especially buggy device, N81 has to be one of the worst Nokia phones I have ever used and would be loathe to recommend it to anyone.  It is underpowered and the Symbian S60 OS behaves like Windows ME. Remember that piece of junk? Well this is worse. It takes more than 10 seconds to open a text message. Switching between applications is akin to me running - out of breath. One has to constantly reboot the phone to even make phone calls”

The US International Trade Commission has begun an investigation into some Nokia 3G mobile phones following a complaint filed last month by InterDigital.

InterDigital has alleged that Nokia infringed in two of its 3G wireless patents. The Pennsylvania-based company has accused Nokia of engaging in unfair trade practice by selling its 3G handsets in the US. It has asked the ITC to bar Nokia from importing phones with the contested technology into the country.

Among the phones that InterDigital claims infringe its patents is Nokia’s N75.

Separately, Nokia had asked the ITC, in mid-August, to ban the import of phones containing Qualcomm chipsets that it alleges infringe on five Nokia patents.

Nokia has just patented what looks like a dual-screen phone similar with an undeniable resemblance to the Nintendo DS. The handset is a simple clamshell with a wide body. It folds up to look like an iPhone with a sash in the middle of the touch screen.

Though primarily known for its sliders and candybar phones Nokia has some successful clamshell like the N76. The new phone will probably run the S60 platform. Nokia has not jumped into the touchscreen bandwagon after Phone like Samsung so we are not sure how long it takes this dual-touch screen Nokia reach store shelves.
